First Setup

In this tutorial, we will walk you through the following steps:

  • Install the ReachView 3 App
  • Connect and place the GNSS antenna
  • Power Reach Module
  • Connect to Reach Module
  • Perform firmware update

To do that, you will need Reach Module itself, an external GNSS antenna, a Wi-Fi network with Internet access, and a smartphone or PC.

If you encounter any issues performing these steps, we will be happy to help at our community forum.

Installing ReachView 3#

For managing Reach Module, we recommend using ReachView 3. Get it from the App Store or Google Play before updating.

Google PlayApp Store
Android ReachView 3 app [60 MB]iOS ReachView 3 app [75.4 MB]
Using Reach with Android devices

Some Android devices have the Battery optimization setting enabled by default. Make sure you disabled it for ReachView 3 to avoid disconnection.

Connecting antenna#

To connect the antenna, follow the steps below:

  1. Plug the antenna cable into MCX socket on Reach Module
  2. Place antenna on the ground plane. It could be a cut piece of metal > 100mm in diameter, roof of a car, or metal roof of a building

There should be no obstacles near the antenna that could block the sky view higher than 30 degrees above the horizon.

Do not test the device indoors or near buildings. Do not cover the skyview for the antennas with laptops, cars or yourself. RTK requires good satellite visibility and reception.

To learn how to properly place the antenna, check the Antenna placement guide.

Powering up#

To power up your Reach, follow the steps below:

  1. Take Micro-USB <--> USB cable that is coming with the package

  2. Plug Micro-USB end of the cable into Micro-USB port on Reach {{ model }} and plug another end into 5V power source such as USB power bank, USB wall adapter or USB port of a computer

Do not plug two power supplies at the same time as it may damage the device.

You can read more about power supply in this guide.

After the device is powered up, the white and the magenta LEDs are going to blink slowly. After about 30 seconds the white and the green LEDs are going to blink alternately. Reach Module is now broadcasting Wi-Fi.

Connecting to Reach Module#

Using Reach with Android devices

Turn off the mobile data on your device before connecting to Reach's hotspot.

To connect to your Reach, follow the steps below:

  1. Open a list of Wi-Fi networks on your smartphone, tablet or laptop
  2. Connect to a network named reach:xx:xx
  3. Type network password: emlidreach

Once you successfully connected to Reach's hotspot, you can go to ReachView 3 and set up connection to your Wi-Fi network.

  2. Tap the plus button and enter your Wi-Fi network name, security type, and password
  3. Tap the Save button

Reach Module will stop broadcasting Wi-Fi and connect to your network. The blue LED will blink rapidly while scanning for networks. Once Reach connects to Wi-Fi, the blue LED will start blinking slowly alternately with the green LED.

When the Wi-FI connection is established, you can connect to your unit using ReachView 3:

  1. Open the app
  2. Choose your unit from the list of available devices

If there is only one receiver, the app will automatically try to connect to this Reach.

If your device did not connect to a Wi-Fi network, it will switch back to a hotspot mode. In that case, repeat the steps and double check your network name and password.

Updating ReachView 3#

After connecting to Reach Module, you will see Updater again. Wait until it checks for the latest updates. If there is an update, follow the steps below:

  1. Press the Update ReachView button and wait. The process will take a few minutes
  2. Tap Reboot and go to the app!

  4. Close the Updater page
  5. Tap the Receivers tab to go back to the list of available devices
  6. Refresh the list of available devices
  7. Connect to your receiver

If there is only one receiver, the app will automatically try to connect to this Reach.
